The YSEALI Smart Cities Regional Workshop will be a “Hybrid Program” which combine online session and in-person activities. We bring together 50 participants who are between the ages of 20-35 and are registered YSEALI network members from all ASEAN member nations as well as Timor-Leste. This workshop aims to enhance participants’ knowledge of smart cities as well as to explore how to involve civil society and small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in smart city development in the region.
The purpose of “YSEALI Smart Cities Regional Workshop” is to expand participants’ understanding of opportunities and risks of smart cities, as well as to learn from best practices around the world. The ultimate aim is to foster a strong network among participants and to encourage greater involvement from young leaders, civil society, and SMEs in smart city development, while increasing capacity of future leaders to develop sustainable solutions to urbanization challenges in the region, using digital and other tools.
Ideal location to host the YSEALI Smart Cities Regional Workshop, Bangkok – Thailand is one of the foremost potential smart cities in the region. It was included into the first cohort of ASEAN Smart Cities Network (ASCN) in April 2018, and has hosted the ASEAN Smart Cities Network Conference and Exhibition in August 2019. Furthermore, Thailand has taken steps towards realizing digital economy and the development of smart cities is among its top priorities. The government’s digital initiative has the ultimate aim to see Thailand prosper into a high-income nation with an economy driven by innovation and value-based industries. As such, we propose Bangkok to host this year’s YSEALI Smart Cities Regional Workshop.
