The Grist Fellowship Program is a paid opportunity to hone your skills at a national news outlet and deepen your understanding of environmental issues. The experience is designed to give early-career journalists with a demonstrated interest in environmental issues the experience to succeed in climate and environmental media. Grist offer real-world experience at a fast-paced news site, training in a variety of skills key to a journalism career, and exposure to the leading sustainability thinkers and theories of our time.
There are six different fellowship opportunities:
Environmental Justice Fellow
Indigenous Affairs Fellow
News & Politics Fellow
Food & Agriculture Fellow
Climate Solutions Fellow
Data Fellow
Eligibility
Living in the United States for the duration of the fellowship
Must be legally authorized to work in the US
Ability to make a full-time, one-year commitment
Demonstrated experience in writing and reporting, including on deadline
Passion for climate and environmental journalism and storytelling, with a focus on solutions and equity
Demonstrated familiarity with the principles of solutions journalism
Available during standard work hours in a U.S. time zone
Strong understanding of Grist’s brand
Four-year degree, or equivalent professional experience
