You understand the impact that the monetary and financial system as well as wider EU economic policies have on nature. You are an astute economist with at least 5 years’ relevant professional experience and you have a good awareness of mainstream as well as alternative economic and monetary policies. You are a committed environmentalist eager to stimulate fundamental change. You want to use your skills, energy and creativity to defend the interests of a living planet. If this sounds like you, then Greenpeace would like you to become part of their global network of campaigners and join the team at Greenpeace European Unit in Brussels as our EU Economic Adviser.
Main purpose of the job: To advance global Greenpeace campaign objectives through formulation and dissemination of alternative fiscal, monetary and economic solutions and strategies designed to shift public opinion and EU politics.
Main Responsibilities:
- Identify opportunities to advance Greenpeace’s campaign objectives via EU economic, fiscal and monetary policy;
- Design strategic interventions to influence related EU politics and public debate;
- Advise the Greenpeace EU policy team on long-term campaign objectives to support a resilient and ecological financial and monetary system.
Eligibility
Relevant Skills and Qualifications:
- You have an academic background equivalent to a Master’s degree in Economics, Public Finance, Monetary policy or related topic;
- You have at least 5 years’ relevant professional experience;
- You have knowledge of relevant EU policies;
- You have knowledge of the EU institutions and their decision-making process;
- You have knowledge of the monetary and financial system, the monetary creation process and the functioning of the central banks;
- You have knowledge and experience in alternative monetary and economic policies (including complementary currencies), and contacts with relevant activists and practitioners;
- You have strong research, analytical, and advocacy skills;
- You have a proven ability to grasp quickly and accurately new and complex concepts and areas of economics;
- You are committed to environmental protection and Greenpeace values;
- You have good interpersonal and networking skills;
- You are fluent in written and spoken English and at least one other EU language.

This post is ordinarily located at our office in Brussels. Due to the pandemic and related restrictions, the successful applicant could work from another location in the short to medium term.
